PolyWorks V9 to Offer the First Automatic Scan Alignment Tool on the Market

InnovMetric Software Inc. is proud to announce the release of the first fully automatic scan alignment tool on the market. From now on, users of close-range fringe projection systems and desktop laser scanning systems will have the ability to align a new scanned point cloud with respect to a set of already aligned scans without being required to either pre-align the new scan with the mouse or match one or several pairs of points. The new outstanding alignment technique requires only a few seconds for execution and has a success rate that exceeds 95% in InnovMetric’s internal benchmarks. This means that an average of 19 scans out of 20 can be aligned automatically without any user intervention. The new feature dramatically decreases the time needed to assemble a set of point clouds into a unified coordinate system.

InnovMetric Software is renowned for its innovative spirit and was the first to introduce major point cloud processing technologies such as best-fit scan alignment, adaptive meshing, GD&T on high-density point clouds, and Flush & Gap gauges on point clouds.

The release of this fully automatic scan alignment tool re-asserts our commitment to provide customers with the most advanced point cloud processing techniques and to offer a user-friendly solution that requires minimal user intervention,” said Marc Soucy, President of InnovMetric. “The release of PolyWorks® Version 9 in Q1 of 2005 will mark a turning point in our industry thanks to a number of new powerful automated tools that we will bring to the market to further increased user productivity,” he concluded.
